Luis Arias Barquet, MD, PhD – Spain

Dr. Arias is Head of the Retina Department at Bellvitge University Hospital,
Barcelona, Spain. He graduated from the University of Barcelona, where he
also completed his ophthalmology training and his PhD, which considered
combination therapies for classic lesions secondary to AMD. He is known for
his research, particularly in relation to choroidal neovascularization associated
with a variety of conditions, and for his passion for education in ophthalmology.
He was awarded the International Ophthalmologist Education Award by the
American Academy of Ophthalmology for his achievements and dedication to
ophthalmology education. He has published close to 100 peer reviewed papers
related to retinal research, along with books and book chapters, with more
recent papers featuring Swept Source OCT imaging, providing new clinical
insights. He is a regular reviewer for a wide range of international peer reviewed
journals and sits on the editorial board of the Spanish journal, Macular Pathology
Review.
He has presented at an impressive number of conferences and educational
events, both within his native Spain and globally, testament to his skill as an
educator and researcher.
